Wow. Am I behind the times.

My experience with SILENT HILL has been lame. People have been telling me for years to play the game. I got my hands on SILENT HILL 3 for the PS2 and played it for about a week. I wasn't amused. It seemed like Resident Evil only slow as molasses and no guns.

But the other day, I saw the above .gif of Pyramid Head and I got curious. So I went headlong into a hole that was dug back in 2004. I went into this thing at about 2AM this morning.

I came out the other side with this conclusion:

SILENT HILL IS THE BEST VIDEO GAME MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN. MADASFOK

I don't know why it got panned...
I don't know why it didn't get the props it deserved...

It has a few flaws, but other than that it is beautifully constructed, and in short, a masterpiece.

It demands second and third viewings.

This is a film that takes the typical Japanese ghost story and brutes it out, American style. Of course, I am sure research will show that the game originated in Japan, so it is like a hard rewiring of their concept after running it through a trickster or two.

It is lengthy. But wow, when this film gets up and running, it is a SOLID HORROR MOVIE.

And it doesn't shy away. this isn't some RESIDENT EVIL where people run around dropping f-boms to get the R-Rating. This film is a HARD R and I put that on SPLATTER.

I am shaking my head. How did I miss this? It is freaking genius.
And now I have to play ORIGINS on the PSP in order to catch up.

OFFICIAL SITE IS STILL UP

The truth of the matter is that I went into this thing with the lowest of low expectations. I need to program myself to do this more. Because these people were really trying. WOW. I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU CHECK IT OUT.

PS> I might be one of the biggest DEBORAH KARA UNGER fans on the planet. Homegirl breaks ribs for her roles (PAYBACK). thumbup

Ogre Nix is a HUGE Silent Hill fan. Try contacting him for some added insight/hype/opinions.

I'll throw my movie review down later when I got time.
